It is with a sense of great sadness that, after 35 years as a GP at the practice I am announcing my
retirement on 1st September 2026. I have never lost sight of the extraordinary privilege it has been
to share in the lives of so many. I have seen children grow up to have children of their own, have
stood alongside during challenge and overcoming, wept with sadness and celebrated joys. This
has been the best job in the world!
Several people have asked if I will return perhaps to work part time or as a locum, but I’m afraid I
am hanging up my stethoscope for good. However, I will still be found, shopping in Lidl, at church,
or running at Parkrun. This chapter is closed and a new begins, as I start a course in creative
writing, take up pottery and (hopefully) run a few marathons!
Sadly there will not be enough time in the next few weeks for me to say good bye to all of you who
have been so special in my General Practice journey, but there is a book available to sign and
write in at reception, if anyone would like to do so. Also we are hosting a ‘goodbye coffee morning’
at the practice from 10-12.30 on Saturday 5th September. All are welcome (any proceeds to the
Cornerstone equipment fund)
